Under the blazing sun, climbing the steep, completely exposed trail at Kai Kung Leng is no easy task. As you crest one undulating hill after another, you truly feel the meaning of “there’s always a higher mountain.” Kai Kung Leng’s topography is striking, with its ridgeline extending in all directions and an impressively commanding presence. The contours of the hills form rich layers under the light, making the landscape visually captivating. It is the same sunlight, yet it makes you both love and hate it—love it for the beautiful colours it reveals, and hate it for the exhaustion it brings. As the saying goes, “You reap what you sow”; perhaps this hike is the perfect illustration of that. |

The route offers very little shade, involves significant ascents and descents, and the trail is often covered with loose sand and gravel. It demands a high level of physical fitness and is not recommended for those with limited hiking experience.
As the Kai Kung Leng area is a popular site for off-road motorbikes, many messy and uneven side trails can be found along the way. Be sure to stay on the correct path and pay close attention to safety.
If you plan to watch the sunset, it is recommended to do so around the Kai Kung Shan area. Remember to bring a headlamp or flashlight, and be cautious of dogs that may appear near Fung Kat Heung.
